Provincetown’s health department is holding a local health fair at town hall that is open to residents and seasonal workers from Provincetown to Eastham on Wednesday, June 18 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
The event will include a free catered lunch from East End Market. A variety of public health organizations will be there: Outer Cape Health Services will offer free screenings for sexually transmitted infections; AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod will have free harm reduction supplies including test strips and Narcan; and public health nurses from Barnstable County will offer cholesterol, blood glucose, and bone density tests.
Other Outer Cape nonprofits will have tables there, including Cape Cod Children’s Place and the Lower Cape Outreach Council. The state attorney general’s office is sending a representative; that office is responsible for enforcing employee and tenant protection laws.
A late addition to the program was a hepatitis A vaccine clinic, which was announced after an employee at the Red Inn in Provincetown came to work with the illness, sparking a statewide media alert.
Hospitality workers across the Outer Cape are now being encouraged to get the vaccine to avoid “lost shifts, public health follow-up, and unnecessary stress on the team.” People who want a shot are encouraged to register online by June 13 to ensure that enough doses are brought to the fair. —Paul Benson
