Expanded Bus Hours
The Cape Cod Regional Transit Authority’s seasonal early morning and late-night bus route from Orleans to Provincetown, created at the request of the select board in 2023, resumed on weekends last week and will expand to seven days a week on June 21.
On Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, there are now buses leaving the Stop & Shop in Orleans at 4:30, 5:30, and 7:30 a.m. and making the hour-long trip to Provincetown with stops in Eastham, Wellfleet, and Truro.
The late-night bus leaves from MacMillan Pier in Provincetown at 11:05 p.m., 12:05 a.m., and 1:36 a.m. to go back to Orleans.
The extra route was created because many people who work in Provincetown were spending significant amounts on taxis to get to their hotel jobs early in the morning or to get home from bar and restaurant jobs late at night. The bus will continue to run seven days a week until Sept. 1.
Summer Recreation Program
Provincetown’s summer rec program for children ages four and up is nearly full: as of a May 21 memo, 113 students had registered for 120 spots. The program runs from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., June through August, and is especially important for parents who work in the Outer Cape’s seasonal economy in which child care is scarce and summer earning opportunities are essential.
Due to the reconstruction of Motta Field, more of this year’s programming will be indoors with activities at both the Veterans Memorial Community Center and the Provincetown Schools buildings. —Paul Benson
