The Bourdain Filming
A movie about chef, author, and TV personality Anthony Bourdain will be shooting scenes in Provincetown during the week of June 2 and will set up basecamp in Riley’s parking lot at 132 Bradford St. beginning on May 30, according to Town Manager Alex Morse.
Scenes are expected to be shot on MacMillan Pier, on town beaches, and at businesses along Commercial Street, and a fire dept. detail will be required for one of the scenes — presumably one with smoke and many expletives.
The project will require “intermittent traffic control,” and some street closures could take place, Morse wrote to the select board.
The movie is being made by the film studio A24 and has the working title Tony. The bulk of the movie will be shot in Plymouth and other places that are less expensive than the Outer Cape, former select board member Lise King told the board on May 12.
“We’re going to have 60 people here, and if we weren’t losing them to Plymouth they’d be here for six weeks,” King said. She urged the board to raise the issue of expanded film tax credits with the state legislature.
“The economic challenges at the state level are significant,” said King, “but I’m hoping we can start a conversation.” —Paul Benson
