Lease to Locals Contract
Eastham’s Lease to Locals program will be run through the California-based company Placemate, Assistant Town Manager Rich Bienvenue confirmed at the select board’s March 24 budget hearing with the finance committee. The company already runs year-round rental incentive programs in Nantucket and Provincetown.
In Provincetown, the incentives for landlords who convert their short-term rentals, seasonal rentals, or vacation homes into year-round rental properties range from $4,000 for a private room in a house to $20,000 for a three-bedroom unit with three qualified tenants. The rent that landlords can charge to tenants is capped, and the long-term leases run for one year.
Provincetown wound up extending its subsidies for a second year to avoid displacing tenants while the Province Post affordable rental project is being completed.
Bienvenue said that Eastham’s Lease to Locals program would likely begin in September and run for at least two years. —Parker Mumford
