Maurice’s Planning Meeting
The Maurice’s planning committee will present its “master plan” for the affordable housing development to residents on Wednesday, April 2 at the elementary school at 6 p.m. Pizza will be provided.
Town officials and planners from Studio G will present their preferred option, likely a variation on prior plans including “The Loop,” with one paved road circling a series of buildings, and “The Petals,” which included smaller neighborhood clusters.
Over the last several days the administrators of a Wellfleet Facebook page took down a few posts that included images of apartment buildings that did not come from the project planners. The Maurice’s plan largely features Cape Cod-style buildings, according to the architects’ presentation last November.
“Some people have been reposting fake news deleted by admins regarding Maurice,” wrote Farrukh Najmi, a moderator of the group. “Please feel free to post about Maurice’s project as long as it is based on facts.”
An online petition was posted on March 23 asking the select board to delay issuing a request for proposals for project developers. “This is not the culture of Wellfleet, nor does it assimilate with the existing neighborhoods,” the petition says of Studio G’s designs. The petition also faults Studio G for recommending that the project developer study whether a traffic light will be needed at Route 6.
As of March 25, the petition had 29 signatures. —Tyler Jager
