Roadwork Ahead
Expect to see construction on Route 6 for a little longer than originally planned. The select board voted unanimously on March 11 to approve requests to extend roadwork through June 13.
Lawrence Lynch Corp., the project contractor, initiated the request with the DPW and the Mass. Dept. of Transportation to continue pavement preservation on Route 6 from the Eastham town line to Nauhaught Bluff Road. “We expect to get all our main work done up to the spring schedule by Memorial Day,” Mike Norton of Lawrence Lynch told the board. “But we’d request to work up to June 13 doing shoulder, curbing, and sidewalk work.”
Contractors also requested approval for longer construction hours, 7 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. on weekdays until Memorial Day and work on Saturdays as needed, which the select board granted.
Construction on improvements to Route 6 began in February 2024, and that year the board denied a similar request to extend roadwork over the summer. Board members were more bullish on the proposal this year than last. At least in theory. “I do support it,” select board member Sheila Lyons said. “I’ll probably rethink that when I’m sitting in traffic.” —Tyler Jager
