Conversation Starters
Road Closures
Several roads and parking areas in the National Seashore will be closed for paving work in the coming weeks, according to an email sent by the Park’s public information officer Linzy French to Town Manager Jacqui Beebe.
Starting on March 17, parking and roadways were closed at Doane Rock and partially closed at the Salt Pond Visitor Center. French wrote that the work would take three to four weeks but added that paving and stripe painting are “heavily weather-dependent.”
Once work at the visitor center is nearing completion, work will begin on Nauset Road between Route 6 and MacPherson Way. Traffic restrictions will be in place during the work.
No RTE for Year-Round Rentals
Assistant Town Manager Rich Bienvenue confirmed at the select board’s March 17 meeting that Eastham will not seek to make year-round rental properties eligible for the residential tax exemption.
To do that would have required authorization in the form of a special legislative measure on this year’s town meeting warrant.
“We’ll consider it as part of a package next year,” Bienvenue said, along with other potential legislation related to taxing such as the HERO Act, which allows towns to double property tax exemptions already available for veterans. —Parker Mumford
