Conversation Starters
New Town Clerk
Nicole Tudor became Truro’s town clerk on Feb. 25 after the select board voted to waive enforcement of Policy 35, which requires the town manager to follow strict procedures when making such appointments. Tudor had served as acting town clerk since Dec. 3 while continuing in her role as executive assistant.
“She’s done a fantastic job,” said Assistant Town Manager Kelly Clark, who is currently handling town manager duties.
Clark recommended waiving the policy to enable her to permanently appoint Tudor while expediting the search for a new executive assistant.
Chair Susan Areson spoke in favor of the proposal: “She’s wonderful. I fully support it.”
Four members of the board unanimously approved the recommendation. Vice chair Bob Weinstein, who is recovering from surgery, was not present for the vote.
Get Yourself Elected
The select board has set May 13 for Truro’s annual town election. The deadline to register to vote in that election is May 3, which is the day of town meeting. Clark said she’ll set up a table at town meeting to help people with last-minute registrations.
Nomination papers are available at the town clerk’s office for eight seats on six town boards and committees: two on the five-member select board, two on the seven-member planning board, and one each on the housing authority, board of library trustees, school committee, and cemetery commission.
Candidates must submit nomination papers with at least 20 signatures of registered voters by 5 p.m. on March 25. —Aden Choate
