Goals for Town Manager
After four work sessions, the select board finalized five goals for Town Manager Darrin Tangeman on Jan. 9. Chair Sue Areson acknowledged the process had been lengthy but said it had also been collaborative.
“This is a shared exercise between the town manager and the select board,” she said. “This is not the select board agreeing from on high what has to be done.”
The board made no major changes to the goals it had outlined at a Dec. 12 work session, but it refined certain details, such as the potential for a free-cash transfer at town meeting to fund leadership training for the talent development plan.
The board agreed to extend a June 30 deadline for a draft comprehensive infrastructure plan — meant to address housing, water and wastewater management, traffic, and environmental sustainability — to Sept. 30.
“We’re going to bring on an expert to essentially help facilitate this,” said Tangeman.
The board selected Concord Consulting to conduct the town manager’s review. The board discussed whether a three-point or five-point rating system was most appropriate. Areson, Sue Girard-Irwin, and Stephanie Rein supported a three-point rating system but postponed a decision until the other two board members, who were absent, could weigh in.
The board will vote on Feb. 11 on a rating system. The date for Tangeman’s actual evaluation has still not been set. —Aden Choate
