Odes to a Librarian
Truro Public Library Director Tricia Ford retired on Oct. 8 after 12 years on the job. At the select board meeting that day, Town Manager Darrin Tangeman thanked Ford and recounted the highlights of her tenure, including increased circulation, two strategic plans, the introduction of fine forgiveness, and the creation of Cape Cod’s first seed library.
“Her legacy will live on through the personal connections she has made, the warm, welcoming atmosphere she has fostered, the bar she set for excellent programming and services, and wonderful staff she helped develop and grow,” said Tangeman.
“I sound pretty impressive for someone who locked themselves in the stairwell the first day,” joked Ford. “It went straight up from there.”
Kait Blehm, chair of the library trustees, offered her own ode to Ford. “Her commitment to lifelong learning is evident in the library’s varied programming,” she said. “We’re going to miss your fierce advocacy, wit, and kindness.”
“You’re going to be a very hard act to follow,” said vice chair Bob Weinstein, who has served as the board’s liaison to the library.
The town received more than 20 applications to be Ford’s successor, who has not yet been named. —Aden Choate
