Where Are They Now?
Animal Control Officer Stephanie Sykes has confirmed that Fernando Alonso and Barkus Aurelius, two Siberian huskies deemed dangerous by the select board in April, are no longer in Eastham. Their owner, Richard Moore, moved out of town and took the dogs with him, his attorney, Emir Sehic, said in July.
But the dogs’ owners have not been cooperative in disclosing where the dogs are now, Town Manager Jacqui Beebe told the select board on Oct. 7.
In April, the select board issued a list of orders that Moore would need to comply with to ensure public safety after the dogs ran loose through Eastham and Wellfleet on Feb. 9, killing chickens and injuring a 32-year-old mare. A June court order upholding the board’s decision requires Moore to disclose the dogs’ whereabouts to the town.
Select board chair Aimee Eckman said she felt a duty to prevent further incidents. “If the dogs are somewhere else, that community should know,” she said.
Beebe agreed, saying, “Otherwise it’s starting over.”
The select board recommended that the town’s attorney continue to search for information about the dogs’ location but not to pursue the Moores for noncompliance fees at this time, especially since it is unclear if they are in compliance with the court order. —Parker Mumford
