Townspeople are invited to gather at the Provincetown Fire Dept.’s headquarters, 25 Shank Painter Road, for a ceremony commemorating those who lost their lives in the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks in New York City, Washington, D.C., and Shanksville, Pa. The event is dedicated to remembering the nearly 3,000 civilians and first responders who died in the attack and its aftermath, which for many meant months inhaling noxious dust, chemicals, fumes, and fibers from the debris.
The solemn ceremony will begin at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 11 with a presentation of the colors by members of the Provincetown Police Dept. and of Coast Guard Station, Provincetown.
Jim Keefe, the organizer, will welcome those gathered. Prayers will be offered by the Rev. Robert Nee, Fire Capt. E.J. Martinez, and Police Sgt. Chris Landry. Denise Page will sing “Amazing Grace,” and taps will be played by Mike Coelho. All are welcome. —The editors
