Deputy Decision Ahead
The hiring process is underway to fill the role of deputy fire chief once current Deputy Chief Lisa Albino becomes the chief on Sept. 12.
“We’ve received an excellent pool,” said Human Resources Director Laurie Barr. According to Town Manager Jacqui Beebe’s report at the Aug. 26 select board meeting, 18 candidates have applied for the job. Some are internal candidates, while others have applied from across the Commonwealth, as well as from Kentucky, Michigan, and Connecticut, Barr said.
Barr said the most important factor in hiring will be the candidate’s ability to work with Albino. “This person has to be her right-hand person,” she said. “It has to be someone she can trust, rely on, work with.” Barr also stressed that the future deputy chief will have to have or develop knowledge of the community. This qualification, she said, means that internal and local candidates may be better suited for the role, but “I don’t think it’s impossible that someone from outside our community could come and adapt.”
The first round of interviews has been completed, and the second round will take place on Sept. 12, Barr said. The town manager’s report indicated that the successful candidate will receive an offer letter by Oct. 1. —William von Herff
