Moods and Microbiomes
The health departments of the four Outer Cape towns, with the nonprofit Outer Cape Community Solutions, are launching a program of free monthly “depression screenings” and nutritional counseling sessions.
The screenings, which are conducted by nurses from the Visiting Nurses Association of Cape Cod, are 20-minute private sessions and offered on the first Thursday of every month at the Wellfleet Adult Community Center from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and at the Provincetown library from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
The “ask a dietitian” sessions focus on healthy eating, including microbiome health, and affordable strategies for eating well. They will be held on the third Thursday of every month at the Eastham Council on Aging from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. and at the Truro Council on Aging from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.
The program is paid for by an ARPA grant that was awarded to the four towns and Outer Cape Community Solutions for public health work. The first depression screenings took place on Aug. 1, and the first “ask a dietitian” event will be Aug. 15.
