Conversation Starters
The Slope at Longnook
The town announced on July 3 that Longnook Beach was closed again for a bluff safety evaluation. The steepness of the paths down to the beach had already caused a two-month closure earlier this year, which ended when the DPW releveled the slopes.
Longnook Beach is known for its dramatic topography, and the beach has been closed periodically over the years for safety reasons. In 1973, according to the town’s press release, an 11-year-old was killed by a sand collapse.
Now, “areas that are undercut, areas of slumping, and collections of large rocks perched precariously above the footpaths and beach” pose risks to beachgoers, according to the town. “The evaluation process will involve a thorough examination of the bluffs and beach access.”
Community Survey
The town has launched a “community satisfaction” survey open to Truro residents, business owners, and visitors. It asks respondents to rate their satisfaction with different town departments and services. Officials want to know what needs to be sustained or improved.
The survey will be open through September and will be repeated every other year. It’s available online or physically at town hall. Contact town communications and marketing coordinator Katie Riconda at [email protected] with questions. —Sophie Mann-Shafir
