Conversation Starters
Corridor Vision
The town has posted more information about the Shank Painter Road Community Visioning Workshop that will be held at town hall on July 10.
The Shank Painter Road corridor has many more large parcels than are typical in Provincetown, and the entire roadway is scheduled to be rebuilt in 2025 with pedestrian and bicycle improvements.
Shank Painter Road also has many car-dependent uses, including a supermarket, gas station, fire station, and the town’s new police station, and will host the majority of the town’s affordable housing units when the 65 apartments on Jerome Smith Road become available in late 2025 or early 2026.
The “corridor plan and revised zoning plan” aim to capitalize on these changes and help the community envision what kind of future development should be allowed on Shank Painter. The goal is to create a “lively and attractive new ‘front door’ ” for the town.
Further information and a survey can be found on the town’s website.
Summer Recreation
Provincetown’s summer recreation program has 120 children enrolled and “a growing waitlist,” according to a notice in Town Manager Alex Morse’s memo to the select board for their June 24 meeting.
About 72 of those children, or 60 percent of the total, are four-, five-, and six-year-olds. Provincetown is the only town on Cape Cod that allows four-year-olds in its summer recreation program, according to the memo. —Paul Benson
