Town Meeting Parking
Logistics are being firmed up for the town’s unprecedented double town meetings, set for May 4 and 5. Officials are expecting record turnouts, estimating there could be more than 1,000 people attending.
Both the special town meeting and the annual one will take place, in that order, under a heated tent at the Truro Central School ballfield. Parking spots at the school “will be reserved for individuals who need close proximity parking because they are unable to travel by bus or walk/traverse longer distances,” the town announced on April 12.
According to the Mass. Dept. of Transportation, parking along the shoulder of Route 6 — a common practice at town meetings past — is prohibited.
The town will use Head of the Meadow Beach for satellite parking. If that fills up, Truro Community Center (7 Standish Way) will provide additional parking. The town will run a shuttle service to and from those lots and the school for the duration of both meetings. The shuttling will begin at 8 a.m.; check-in for the meeting begins at 8:30 a.m.
Both meetings are slated to begin at 10 a.m., with the annual town meeting to get underway as soon as the special town meeting ends.
“The Annual Town Meeting will open and be adjourned to immediately open Special Town Meeting and proceed with it. Annual Town Meeting will resume after Special Town Meeting business is complete and resolved,” the town’s announcement says.
Those in need of transportation or accessible parking spots should contact Katie Thibodeau of the Community Services Dept.: [email protected] or 508-413-9507.
Be Prepared
The town will hold a pre-town meeting on April 24, offering a run-through of the annual town meeting warrant. The 42-article document is now available on the town website. The session will include opportunities to ask questions. No votes will be taken. Join online at 5:30 p.m. or in person at the Truro Community Center. —Sophie Mann-Shafir
