Open Jobs and Staffing Shortages
The dept. of public works announced on March 27 that the town’s transfer station would cut its hours due to staffing constraints. The transfer station is now open Saturday through Wednesday from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Beginning May 1, it will close at 3 p.m.
The transfer station has had seasonal openings posted on the town website since May 2022, including transfer station laborers, a DPW laborer, and a wharfinger, who works with the harbormaster. The pay is $17 per hour.
The town also wants to fill year-round jobs: the community development dept. seeks a director to oversee community projects and municipal planning for $67,010 to $73,966; the health dept. has an office assistant job at $55,843 to $69,740; the fire dept. listed an opening on March 18 for a firefighter-paramedic at a salary of $67,333 to $78,055.
The position of part-time program administrator for the council on aging is also open. It is funded through a year-long grant to help the COA improve online accessibility and expand programming. —Olivia Oldham
