Fire at Massassoit Hills
Four people were displaced from their home at Massassoit Hills Trailer Park on Saturday after a fire erupted in a shed and spread to an abutting mobile home.
According to a press release from the Wellfleet Fire Dept., the fire broke out on March 23 at 8:45 a.m. Eastham Fire Capt. Charles Frazier was in the area and arrived on the scene at 210 West Road within a minute of dispatch to find two sheds fully engulfed. The fire was beginning to spread to the mobile home and the surrounding wooded area.
The fire was declared under control at 9:37 a.m. with no reported injuries. Mutual aid came from Eastham, Truro, Orleans, Chatham, and Harwich. The sheds were destroyed, but crews were able to knock down the fire involving the mobile home before it spread inside.
The mobile home was still declared uninhabitable, and its four occupants were assisted by the American Red Cross with temporary housing and living expenses, the press release said.
Fire Chief Richard Pauley told the Independent that the department has not determined a cause of the fire except that it was “accidental in nature.” —Sam Pollak
