The Tax Work-Off Is Back
Eastham is reintroducing its senior tax work-off program, which went on hiatus during the pandemic. The program allows up to 25 seniors to work for the town and apply the earnings to their property taxes, according to Town Assessor Colleen Mercurio.
The program is available to those making no more than $40,000 per year.
Whereas the maximum abatement participants could earn was previously $1,000, that limit is now $2,000.
Town Manager Jacqui Beebe lauded the program, saying that it allows seniors to interact with the community and get out of the house.
Currently, the program has 12 applicants, so there’s an opportunity for 13 more people to take part. —Olivia Oldham
