Conversation starters
Showing Up
The Wellfleet Community Forum is hosting a meeting on Monday, Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. titled: “Do you feel like no one on the Selectboard is listening?”
According to the forum’s announcement, the meeting is “an opportunity to show up and communicate your concerns about the performance of the Selectboard and the management of our Town’s government.”
Citing the hiring of Wellfleet’s seventh town administrator in the last decade, the announcement states that the “constant churn of leadership is no way to run a local government.”
Town Moderator Dan Silverman will run the meeting. “His primary job will be to keep the conversations civil,” the announcement says. “We all know how well Dan handles this role at Town Meetings.”
Tom Guerino Eases In
Wellfleet’s interim town administrator, Tom Guerino, started the job on Monday, Feb. 12. His base salary is $198,000, with a monthly stipend of $750 for housing.
Guerino’s contract calls for an additional monthly stipend of $300 for travel costs. He lives in southern Vermont, although he told the select board that he would relocate to Cape Cod for the duration of his interim position.
Pursuant to the town’s charter, Guerino is designated acting town administrator for a period of 90 days, with the select board having the option to renew his employment. Guerino told the select board during his interview on Jan. 29 that he would like to be Wellfleet’s interim town administrator for at least a year.
Guerino was the director of the Greenfield Housing Authority. Before taking that job, he was Bourne’s town administrator from 2005 to 2019. According to an email sent to the Independent by Guerino, he is “easing out” of his current position and “easing into” the interim role.
Guerino is currently working part-time and will begin working full-time on Feb. 26, he said. —Sam Pollak
