Election Season
There will be two seats on the select board to be filled on town election day in May.
One seat is currently held by Jamie Demetri, who has said she is planning to run for reelection for a third term; it is a three-year term. Demetri has scheduled two in-person meet-and-greet opportunities at the Eastham Public Library, one on Feb. 20 and the other on Feb. 24.
Two years remain in the term for the seat now open because of chair Art Autorino’s death on Feb. 4, according to Assistant Town Clerk Kendra Menard. Autorino was reelected in May 2023.
The deadline to submit nomination papers is April 2. Papers require 34 certified signatures from registered Eastham voters, with a recommended 36 to guarantee certification.
There are also two three-year terms open on the elementary school committee; one one-year term and one three-year term open on the library’s board of trustees; one three-year term open on the Nauset Regional School Committee; and one two-year term open on the housing authority. —Olivia Oldham
