A House Convoy
Two structures will be moved next week to 25 South Highland Road, a town-owned developable parcel. The plan is to put them into use as housing for town employees.
One building will be moved there from 13 Walsh Way and the other from 127 South Pamet Road.
The house-moving will happen on Feb. 21 and 22, beginning at 6:45 a.m. on both days, and is expected to last about three hours each morning.
The undertaking involves collaboration among several town departments: the police, the fire dept., and the DPW, according to the town’s announcement.
Onlookers can expect to see “an escorted rolling convoy” move north on Route 6 with both structures arriving at South Highland Road on Feb. 22.
“Route 6 will not be closed but expect delays and utilize alternate routes as available,” the town recommends.
The structure from 13 Walsh Way is among the eight cottages that were on the property when the town purchased it in 2019. The plan to move one for the town’s use has been discussed since 2022.
The 127 South Pamet Road structure was given to the town in December 2023 by Tom and Kathleen Dennis, according to Town Manager Darrin Tangeman. It was a studio the town had asked the Dennises to remove from the lot when another of the couple’s houses was moved there after it was left teetering on the edge of the bluff by winter storms in 2022. The zoning bylaw allows only one dwelling unit per lot. —Sophie Mann-Shafir
