A Survey Inspires a Health Fair
The Eastham Health Dept. is hosting a health fair on Wednesday, Jan. 17 from noon to 4 p.m. in the Turner Meeting Room at the Eastham Public Library. The fair will offer free health screenings, bone density screenings, blood pressure readings, and Narcan training, according to a flyer publicizing the event.
Various health organizations will be present to provide support and training, including the Cape Cod Visiting Nurses Association, the Family Table Collaborative, and the Barnstable County Dept. of Health.
The fair was prompted by the results of a community health needs assessment that found that residents were dealing with hypertension and other chronic diseases, according to Patrice Bennett, a public health resource coordinator from the county health dept. who is helping the town with the fair.
Respondents said they were “not motivated” to limit the effects of those health problems on their lives, Bennett wrote in an email to the Independent. The fair was planned in response to that finding, she wrote. The idea is to bring more health resources directly to the community. —Olivia Oldham
