Winter Courses Announced
The Winter Wednesdays program, which is now a collaboration between the health departments of Provincetown, Truro, Wellfleet, and Eastham, has opened registration for its lineup of free weekly classes that run from mid-January to early March.
Developed to help improve social engagement and thus mental health during Cape Cod’s long winters, the program now includes free child care for all participants in the 11 courses that meet in person in Provincetown. The libraries in Truro, Wellfleet, and Eastham will also host classes this year, and another 10 courses will meet online only. (Residents of Outer Cape towns may sign up for any class, regardless of where it meets.)
About half the classes are arts-related, including courses on drawing, clay sculpting, color theory, digital photography, creative writing, and documentary filmmaking. There are also two classes on tarot cards, four virtual yoga classes, a knitting class, a cross-stitch class, a cookie-baking class, and three movement classes: ecstatic dancing, Qigong, and Zumba.
A class on parenting will meet in Provincetown, a class on federal jury trials will meet in Wellfleet, and a “death café” — an open-ended discussion about the end of life — will meet online.
Supplies for the courses are provided at no cost, and free cab rides are available for Provincetown, Truro, and Wellfleet residents.
Course descriptions, meeting times, and registration are available at winterwednesdays.org.
