After School Is Back
Registration opened on Dec. 8 for the revamped after-school program at Truro Central School, which is set to begin on Jan. 8. Beginning then, the program will run on weekdays from 3 to 5:30 p.m.
Every day, the program will include time for kids to work on homework or projects, snack time, games and sports, a themed “enrichment activity,” and independent time.
Families can sign students up for individual days or the whole week. The program will last until the school year ends in June and the recreation dept.’s Summer Youth Program begins. Registration is free and can be completed online at trurorec.com.
Truro Is Hiring
The town is currently looking to fill two positions: one for a truck driver for the dept. of public works and the other for a firefighter/paramedic.
The full-time truck driving job entails manual construction work, repair projects, operating motor equipment, and working as part of a crew. Applicants must have a Massachusetts commercial driver’s license with air brake endorsement and a hoisting license. The job pays from $29.69 to $31.18 hourly depending on qualifications and is eligible for benefits.
The firefighter/paramedic position is a union job, and application requirements include a valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record. The hourly wage ranges from $35.31 to $46.08, plus a $3,000 signing bonus to be paid in three installments. Firefighter I/II Pro-Board certification is recommended, though applicants in school and within six months of certification will also be considered. The position includes benefits.
Descriptions of both jobs are available online. Applications can be submitted by mail or via email to [email protected]. —Sophie Mann-Shafir
