Conversation Starters
Forgivable Loans for ADUs
The Wellfleet Affordable Housing Trust has announced a new forgivable loan program for property owners who create an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) to be rented affordably for a minimum of five years.
The trust will make four $10,000 no-interest loans as post-construction incentives to homeowners who wish to rent an ADU affordably (that is, according to Housing and Urban Development Affordable Fair Market Rent guidelines).
Program funds can also be used for updating an existing ADU and as amnesty to convert existing unpermitted apartments into legal ADUs.
The plan uses Community Preservation Act funds and will be managed and monitored by the Lower Cape Housing and ADU Resource Center, a partnership between the Community Development Partnership and the Homeless Prevention Council.
Homeowners applying for the loan program are required to provide proof of a building permit, certificate of occupancy, and a signed lease agreement with qualified tenants.
The resource center will host an information session at the Wellfleet Public Library on Tuesday, Dec. 12 at 6 p.m.
Open Space Forum
The open space committee is conducting a community forum at which it will share the results of its open space and recreation survey and invite community members to discuss the preservation of Wellfleet’s environmental and recreational resources.
The forum will be held on Thursday, Dec. 7 at 6 p.m. at the Adult Community Center. —Sam Pollak
