New Assistant Administrator
Wellfleet welcomed its new assistant town administrator, Silvio Genao, on Oct. 23. He brings degrees in civil engineering and public policy to the job, and his ties to the Cape and Islands stretch back almost 20 years.
Genao has held jobs in project management in Nantucket and Barnstable and has worked in human resources and public works administration in Plymouth and Eastham. He says listening is a key part of his work and that it helps him better understand how to help residents and other stakeholders. Local government has interested him since he immigrated to the U.S. from the Dominican Republic after college.
“I was immediately fascinated by the fact that one could watch their local government on live TV, and that residents attended the meetings and actively participated in the process,” he said in an email to the Independent.
Genao is now working with Town Administrator Rich Waldo to address some of the main challenges facing Wellfleet. In particular, he is interested in projects related to housing, water quality, wastewater management, and staffing.
“I am thankful that I can contribute both my professional and cultural backgrounds to bring a different perspective to the conversation,” he said. —Aden Choate
