Town Meeting Reflections
In a memo sent to the select board on Oct. 11, Town Moderator Dan Silverman reflected on the modifications made to procedures at the Sept. 18 town meeting.
Only one family took advantage of the free child care, but Silverman suggested continuing the service at future town meetings. “It may take a while for families to get used to the idea that they don’t have to choose between parental responsibilities and attending town meeting,” he wrote.
Silverman also suggested continuing the practice of scheduling fall and spring town meetings, one focused on financial matters and the other on zoning and other bylaws. “Dividing the meeting makes it more likely that all articles can be dealt with in one session without short-changing the debate or tiring the voters too much,” he wrote.
Silverman noted the importance of proofreading the warrant before it goes to press. “This year’s Warrant had more than the usual number of typos and other errors which needed to be corrected by way of the motions,” he wrote. —Sam Pollak
