Conversation Starters
Voting Time
The deadline to register to vote at special town meeting is Wednesday, Oct. 11. Truro residents can register online, by mail, or in person at town hall. Voters will be asked to weigh in on 15 articles including use of the Walsh property, the local comprehensive plan, and the dept. of public works facility upgrade.
There is no special town election currently scheduled, but the town plans to hold one if any article involving borrowing passes at town meeting, said Town Manager Darrin Tangeman.
Three articles in that category appear on the warrant: one would authorize borrowing $1.4 million for roofing, heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning repairs at Truro Central School. The other two are related to the DPW upgrade.
Community Classes
Community education classes for fall 2023 are now open for registration. The courses are held mainly at Truro Central School or on Zoom and are open to anybody, said Truro Community Education Director Heather Harper.
An array of arts classes are offered, including pine needle basket making, clay hand-building, painting in watercolor, and nature drawing. Physical education classes like circuit training and aerial arts will take place in person at the school, as will beginner and intermediate Spanish.
Classes last between four and six weeks and range in cost from $50 to $85 (with a $5 senior discount). There’s also an assortment of single-session free classes in sketching and gardening. Rowan Wielblad will teach “Draw a Bird” on Oct. 23 and “Sketch a Classic Cape Building — with basic perspective” on Dec. 7. James Rosato will guide students in “Dirt Farming 101” on Oct. 17 and “Growing More With Less” on Oct. 24.
