Conversation Starters
Comprehend the Plan
A hearing on the local comprehensive plan committee’s draft plan for 2023 will take place at the Truro Community Center on Sept. 7 from 4 to 6 p.m.
The document was created over the course of several meetings and is based on the Cape Cod Commission’s Regional Policy Plan, public outreach, and input from town boards and committees, according to its introduction.
The introduction has a section dedicated to “The ‘R’ Word: Rural,” which explains why the word “rural” is not included in the document. “Rural has become a trigger for emotional reaction in Truro that gets in the way of constructive, civil, and creative discourse,” it says.
The document’s goals section outlines five priorities for the future of the town having to do with housing, climate, economy, infrastructure, and community culture.
The plan looks to guide decisions shaping Truro’s future 5 to 10 years out. It will appear on the warrant at that special town meeting on Oct. 21.
The final draft and summary report are available on the town’s website, and community members will be able to provide feedback at the public meeting. Child care, baked goods, and coffee will be provided.
DPW Office Hours
With plans underway for a new nearly $30-million DPW facility, Director Jarrod Cabral will hold office hours every Friday to answer questions and talk about the project. Cabral’s office hours begin Sept. 8 and will continue through Oct. 20. They will take place weekly at the Community Center from 2 to 4 p.m. —Sophie Mann-Shafir
