Housing Advisory Group
The Town Manager’s Housing Advisory Group held its first meeting on Aug. 28. Organized in the wake of a contentious spring town meeting, the group is charged with finding ways to preserve and increase the town’s supply of year-round housing.
The agenda at this week’s meeting included discussion of short-term rental regulations, incentives to help generate year-round rentals, and changes to the town’s accessory dwelling unit bylaw. Looking beyond the upcoming fall town meeting, for which the agenda is mostly set, the group is charged with hashing out new policies that can be brought to voters at town meeting next spring.
The group includes Dana Masterpolo from the planning board, Cuong Hoang from the community housing council, Cass Benson from the Year-Round Market-Rate Rental Housing Trust, and Town Planner Thaddeus Soulé, as well as Tony Valentino, a local business owner (and member of the finance committee), Max Cliggott-Perlt, a real estate agent, and Austin Tyler, a hospitality worker.
“The idea is not that they speak on behalf of their entire community, but that they bring a perspective that’s unique,” Town Manager Alex Morse told the select board on Monday night.
Meetings of the group are open to the public and will be weekly or biweekly on Tuesdays at 2 p.m. —Paul Benson
