Child-Care Vouchers
Town residents, employees, business owners, and workers with children four years old or younger have until the end of August to apply for child-care tuition assistance. Families can receive up to $7,500 in direct-to-provider financial assistance for each eligible child.
This round of vouchers will fund care from Sept. 1 through Feb. 28, 2024; the second half of the year (March 1 to Aug. 31, 2024) will be funded by applications due in February. According to an overview of the program available on the town’s website, to be eligible, child-care providers must be licensed by the Dept. of Early Education and Care or a similar entity.
The child-care voucher program, which had been in a pilot phase, became a part of the town’s budget this spring. Town meeting voters approved the $703,050 select board-requested Proposition 2½ override for a community sustainability package in April. The corresponding ballot question in May’s election was the subject of an official recount and passed by a three-vote margin.
Applications are available on the town’s website and may be submitted by mail to town hall, emailed to [email protected], or deposited in the dropbox outsid town hall by 4 p.m. on Aug. 31.
How Government Works, Postponed
A public discussion about local government structure, initially scheduled for Aug. 8, has been postponed to Sept. 14, according to Town Manager Darrin Tangeman.
He said the delay has to do with concerns about a lack of time and space. When the session is eventually held, it will take place in the community center, Tangeman said.
In the meantime, the survey soliciting feedback and questions from the public is still available online. —Sophie Mann-Shafir
