Carlstrom Cancels
On July 24, the day he was supposed to meet with the Provincetown Select Board to discuss dune shacks, sharks, and the town’s airport lease, Cape Cod National Seashore Supt. Brian Carlstrom canceled his appearance, citing “scheduling conflicts.”
The board had invited Carlstrom to meet in a letter dated May 22 that included a series of complaints about the Seashore’s handling of several dune shacks. Carlstrom sent a response on June 15 that dismissed every one of the select board’s concerns but said he would be willing to appear at a meeting “by invitation.”
Carlstrom said he could not come to the June 26 meeting, however, but agreed to appear on July 24.
“The National Park Service has inflicted a great harm on its relationship with this community,” said board member Austin Miller.
“What we are left with here is exactly what my colleagues are saying, that they’re stonewalling, they don’t care, and they’re taking a path that will actually harm our relationship with them,” said board member Leslie Sandberg.
Sandberg said that Carlstrom had asked to reschedule for Aug. 28.
