Conversation Starters
Carlstrom Is Coming to Provincetown
Cape Cod National Seashore Supt. Brian Carlstrom has accepted an invitation from Provincetown’s select board to appear at its meeting on July 24, according to Town Manager Alex Morse.
The board had written a letter to Carlstrom objecting to the terms of the current leasing program for dune shacks and asking for a halt to evictions of dune shack dwellers (see related story).
Carlstrom’s written response, dated June 15, dismissed each of the select board’s written complaints but expressed his willingness to meet.
The public will have the opportunity to comment at the outset of the meeting.
Summertime Lull
As the town fills to capacity with tourists, committee work in town hall slows somewhat. The council on aging canceled its meeting on July 6, the select board canceled its meeting on July 10, and the planning board canceled its meeting on July 13.
With town hall closed on both Monday, July 3 and Tuesday, July 4, there was little time for town staff to prepare a meeting packet for a July 10 meeting, Morse told the Independent.
And with no public hearings and not much else on the agenda, Morse suggested to the select board chair that what matters remained could be moved to the July 24 meeting. —Paul Benson
