Oxtoby Named to School Committee
The select board and school committee voted in a joint meeting on June 27 to appoint Kenneth Oxtoby to the school committee for a one-year term. Oxtoby, a long-time resident of Truro, has served on the committee for a total of 24 years.
“Somebody with so much experience and who has been through all sorts of ups and downs in the world of the school committee,” said select board member Stephanie Rein, “will bring a wealth of expertise.”
Bob Weinstein of the select board said that Oxtoby has “a great ability to listen to parents as well as colleagues on the committee and an ability to calm the waters.”
Oxtoby will fill an opening left by Rachel Rowland, who resigned from the committee in March. The term will expire at next spring’s annual town election. The school committee received three applications, from Oxtoby, Beth Dietz, and Christine Markowski. Tyler Medley also applied but withdrew his application before the meeting began.
The school committee has one other opening, which it will be seeking to fill in the coming weeks. —Sam Pollak
