Monday Night Special Town Meeting
The select board voted to return to holding town meetings on Monday nights and scheduled the upcoming special town meeting for Sept. 18 at 6 p.m. The switch from Saturdays came after voters expressed vexation over weekend meetings, which many said hindered the ability of those in the workforce and with young children to attend.
Child care was another issue raised at the spring town meeting. “We will do our very best to make that happen,” said Town Moderator Dan Silverman at the June 20 select board meeting. Silverman added that he will have to find the funding for it, but Town Administrator Rich Waldo told Silverman, “We can support you on the budget there.”
September’s town meeting will include general and zoning bylaw amendments that were cut from the spring’s 53-article warrant. Voters will also be asked to authorize borrowing through the state’s revolving fund to subsidize a $6.3-million wastewater treatment system at 95 Lawrence Road and a $3-million town program to help homeowners upgrade their septic systems. Approval for borrowing will also allow the town to access subsidies of 25 percent for the projects through the Cape and Islands Water Protection Fund. —Sam Pollak.
