Town Goals
Newly elected Town Moderator Paul Wisotzky led discussion during a public hearing about the town’s goals and objectives for fiscal 2024 at the select board’s June 27 meeting.
The draft document includes 19 objectives, which each address one or more of the select board’s five goals. The goals are to foster economic development, promote affordable housing, protect the environment, ensure the health of the community, and engage with town residents, business owners, and property owners.
Several of the objectives carry over from fiscal 2023, like the effort to keep emergency medical services staffed. The “ambassador” for that objective is Vice Chair Bob Weinstein, who said recruitment is made difficult by the housing crisis.
Board member Sue Areson will be the “ambassador” for the Walsh Property Community Planning Committee and Local Comprehensive Plan Committee’s efforts to address housing needs.
One new objective on this year’s list is the creation of a needs assessment for people with disabilities. That will be created based on community feedback with the goal of expanding services. Member Stephanie Rein will be the “ambassador” for that item.
The select board will meet on Thursday, June 29 at 5 p.m. to discuss comments from the public and adjust the draft. —Sophie Mann-Shafir
