June Housing Workshop
A four-committee housing workshop with the select board, community housing council, Year-Round Market-Rate Rental Housing Trust, and planning board will take place on Tuesday, June 20.
The select board previewed a very long potential agenda at its May 22 meeting. Possibilities for the year ahead include short-term rental regulations, land purchases, fees on long-term vacant properties, and zoning changes to make multifamily housing a by-right use of land.
Also on the agenda is the possibility of forming one or more subcommittees or working groups that could focus on these subjects in the year to come.
At the June 12 select board meeting, member Erik Borg asked if identifying short-term rental regulations should be added to the draft version of the town manager’s goals for the upcoming year. After some discussion, it appeared that “implementing the policies identified at the housing workshops” would be added, as Town Manager Alex Morse pointed out that “town staff is going to take the directives of the select board.
“This is a collaborative effort moving forward,” Morse added, “and we wouldn’t present something that isn’t supported by the policymakers, and vice-versa.” —Paul Benson
