Conversation Starters
To the Ballot Box
There are two competitive races in this year’s town election, which will take place on Monday, May 1 at the Adult Community Center.
Former principal clerk Jeanne MacLauchlan is running against incumbent Ryan Curley for a three-year term on the select board.
And Charles Annett and Richard Davis face off for a two-year position on the cemetery commission.
The incumbents in the five other races are unopposed. Dan Silverman has filed his papers for another one-year term as town moderator. Elementary school committee members Laura Baghetti and Martha Gordon will also seek new three-year terms on the board, which has two open spots. Nancy Vail is running unopposed for the one three-year term on the cemetery commission. Board of library trustees incumbents Andrew Freeman and Robin Robinson face no competition for the two open spots on that board. And incumbent Chris Easley is running uncontested for another three-year term on the Nauset Regional School Committee.
At the Forum
On Thursday, April 13 at 7 p.m. community members will have the chance to hear from proponents of two warrant articles at the upcoming town meeting as well an update from the Friends of Herring River on the status of the restoration project.
Article 40 is a general bylaw amendment that asks voters to approve a new opt-in stretch building code for Wellfleet. David Mead-Fox of the energy and climate action committee will present details of the article and will also explain new building codes that went into effect on January 1 for towns that are part of the statewide Green Communities program.
Merrill Mead-Fox will explain the historical commission’s proposed demolition delay bylaw amendment. Wellfleet’s current demolition delay bylaw was passed at town meeting in 1996.
Friends of Herring River will discuss the project’s status and answer questions about it.
The forum will take place at the Adult Community Center and on Zoom, the link to which can be found on the town’s website. —Sam Pollak
