Conversation Starters
A Vision for Vitality
The economic development committee will hold a meeting on March 23 at 4 p.m. to gather public feedback on the current draft of its vision and strategy.
“The purpose of this plan is to foster sustainable economic activity and help local businesses thrive,” according to a post from the town.
The vision document, which outlines strategies, actions, and timeframes for implementation, cites demographic trends affecting the town. Between 1990 and 2020, Truro’s median age rose from 42.7 to 60.3 years, despite an increase in population.
The document discusses prioritizing workforce housing and making “maximum use of the Walsh property for creation of housing that is accessible for the year-round and seasonal workforce.”
The 69.9-acre Walsh property, which the town acquired in 2019, is the subject of a master plan currently in development by an 11-member committee.
The document also calls for the potential establishment of an official town housing coordinator position. Raphael Richter will ask voters for the same thing in a petitioned article at the April 25 town meeting.
The strategy is being developed in tandem with the Truro local comprehensive plan to ensure it’s in tune with the community’s long-term goals, according to the announcement.
The public input meeting is being held online and can be accessed through a link on the town’s website. —Sophie Mann-Shafir
