Conversation Starters
Walsh Committee Seeks Input
The Walsh Property Community Planning Committee (WPCPC) will hold public discussions via Zoom on Monday, March 20 at 4 p.m. and Wednesday, March 22 at 6 p.m. about mixed-use development of the 69.9-acre Walsh property.
“These focus groups are intended to help the committee gather input on the need for space to support businesses and nonprofit organizations in town,” according to a post from the town.
Commercial development on the property could take many forms, and members have argued about whether it should take priority, given the town’s housing crisis. The WPCPC received a proposal from the Truro Community Kitchen for the development of a commercial kitchen on the property and has also discussed other nonresidential uses, like shops and event spaces.
A Transportation Plan Update
The Cape Cod Commission will hold a listening session at Truro Town Hall this Monday, March 20, at 5 p.m. to gather public input regarding the Cape Cod 2024 Regional Transportation Plan.
The commission updates its long-term transportation plan every four years. Each update outlines plans for the next 25 years, including roadway conditions, public transportation services, electric vehicle charging stations, and bike paths.
“We want feedback on how these projects should be prioritized,” said the commission’s Transportation Program Manager Colleen Medeiros.
The public will also be invited to comment on the plan in late May or early June before a final draft is released, Medeiros said. Projects outlined in the document will be eligible for funding beginning in 2024.
Monday’s meeting will include a demo of a public survey the commission is unveiling next week. It will include a mapping exercise for people to indicate specific areas where they would like to see changes or improvements. —Sophie Mann-Shafir
