Conversation Starters
It’s a Man’s Problem, Too
Joseph Gordon, emergency management director for the Barnstable County sheriff’s office, and Orleans Police Chief Scott MacDonald will be the featured speakers at the first in a series of “meaningful dialogues” by men about domestic or gender violence. The talk will be held on Tuesday, March 7 at 6 p.m. at the Wellfleet Public Library.
This and three other talks during March are sponsored by Jane Doe Inc. and the Mass. Coalition Against Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence, which established the White Ribbon Day Campaign in 2007 as part of an international effort to engage men and boys in stopping gender violence.
On Cape Cod, Independence House has been facilitating the White Ribbon campaign for years. This year, the sheriff’s office has joined the effort, according to an announcement from Independence House.
Low-Lying Road Repairs
The Cape Cod Commission will hold a virtual presentation on Thursday, March 9 at 2 p.m. on a list of roads that are likely to flood during storms now and in the future along with possible fixes (and costs) to keep the roads above water.
The commission has identified portions of Commercial Street, King Phillip Road, Old Pier Road, East Commercial Street, and Lieutenant Island Road as priorities for flood mitigation.
