Warrant Is Open
At its meeting on Jan. 24, the select board opened the warrant for this year’s annual town meeting, which will be on April 3. The warrant will remain open until Friday, March 3 at 11:30 a.m.
This means that any Provincetown voter can pick up a petition from the town clerk’s office, gather 10 signatures from other registered voters, and place an item on the town meeting warrant. The language on the petition must be precise, but in recent years town staff have been available to help voters put their ideas into legally valid language.
Petitioned articles at the last few town meetings have covered a wide range of subjects including bans on plastic bags and straws, the creation of an office of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and an effort to dissolve the town’s Public Pier Corp. —Paul Benson
