Housing Workshops, Round 2
The town will start a new series of three housing workshops on Monday, Oct. 3 at 6 p.m. The second one will likely be in early December and a third one in January or February, according to plans discussed this week by the select board.
Last year’s housing workshops ultimately sent nine articles to the April 2022 town meeting. The joint meetings of the select board, community housing council, and Year-Round Market-Rate Rental Housing Trust discussed bylaw changes, multiple parcels of town-owned land, and reallocation of the rooms tax on hotels and short-term rentals, dropping some proposals and adding others. The nine articles that made it to town meeting floor all passed by large margins.
The agenda for this year’s housing workshops is still taking shape, but one subject that will likely be on it is discussion of the town’s role in supporting seasonal worker housing. A housing production plan, a rental assistance program, and a review of the accessory dwelling unit bylaw are also on the preliminary agenda.
The select board will finalize its agenda at a Sept. 26 meeting. The Year-Round Market Rate Rental Housing Trust and the community housing council have also submitted their own ideas for the workshop. —Paul Benson
