Villagers, Get Involved
The Eastham Public Library hosted the second of three public workshops on June 8 about the development of the North Eastham Village Center. The “center” refers to three town-owned properties: 10.86 acres at the former T-Time driving range, the 3.54-acre Town Center Plaza, and the 1.99-acre Council on Aging property.
Representatives from Union Studio Architecture and Community Design, the Rhode Island-based firm selected by the town to create a master plan for the ongoing project, presented their work at Wednesday’s session.
They had revised three previously presented design plans for each property, based on in-person feedback and 218 survey responses after a first public workshop. Their changes also responded to T-Time Committee recommendations.
Designs for the T-Time property included a community center, mixed-use commercial buildings, housing options, and walkable green space. The potential need for the town to use a portion of the property as a wastewater treatment recharge area was considered.
Town Center Plaza designs included the six existing businesses, additional retail spaces, housing options, and a “walkable downtown.” And should the Council on Aging move from its current location, the proposed layout included an arrangement of 12 housing units on that property.
Those in attendance were asked for their opinions regarding each design, and a follow-up survey was made available online.
