An Energetic Endorsement
The Climate Action Committee (CAC) approved a one-page document titled “Whole Government Approach” on May 14. The committee plans to present the document to each of the other town committees individually, in hopes that all will endorse it.
The document calls for the “incorporation of a climate strategy into the goals of every town department’s operations and planning.”
“All town boards and committees must look at things through a climate lens,” said Bob Higgins-Steele, a member of the CAC, at the June 13 energy committee meeting. He serves as a liaison between the two committees.
“It seems to be a direction a lot of municipalities are taking,” said Higgins-Steele of the approach.
The document further states that the town’s climate action plan will focus on three specific areas in the fight to mitigate and prepare for climate change: governance, education, and resilience. The CAC will be seeking the endorsement of at least five Truro town committees on that idea. Although members are waiting for permission from the select board to contact other committees, the energy committee, a natural ally and collaborator of the CAC, was presented with the document right away.
The energy committee voted unanimously to endorse the document. —Nora Markey
