A ‘Community-Based’ Year
At the Feb. 10 Nauset Regional School Committee meeting, Nauset High’s Fine Arts Dept. Head Tom Faris explained that upcoming construction at the high school will require music and drama performances to take place off campus.
About half of the school will be under construction starting this fall.
“Outside performances, middle school, libraries,” Faris said. “It’s going to be a community-based year –– which is not necessarily a bad thing.”
Principal Chris Ellsasser said that he and Athletic Director John Mattson have already begun working on plans to ensure that winter athletes have gym space and transportation but did not say where games and practices would be held.
Griffin Ryder, who coaches basketball and is on the school committee, said that his team has already had to cancel practices this year because they have been unable to find gym space. “I think we might have to get pretty creative to find gym time and make it work,” he said. —Cam Blair
