EMS Challenges, a Regional Study
Truro, Wellfleet, and Provincetown are gearing up to conduct a study that aims to pinpoint EMS challenges distinct to the Outer Cape. The three towns lean on each other for mutual aid. If all Wellfleet ambulances, for instance, are tied up responding to calls, Truro may be on the hook to cover not only its own turf but also its neighboring town. A major goal of this initiative, according to the January issue of the Truro Talks newsletter, is “ensuring that service interruptions do not occur.”
The findings of the study may have a bearing on budget considerations, hiring processes, and other operational policies. The three towns plan to have a report ready before the upcoming annual town meeting.
Meanwhile, Truro’s four new firefighter-EMTs have wrapped their two weeks of day shifts and have now been split into their group assignments. —Jasmine Lu
