Confirmed bird sightings on the Outer Cape in the week preceding the Independent’s deadline on Tuesday, Oct. 19 included the following, based on a report prepared by Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary.
A Bell’s Vireo was spotted at Fort Hill in Eastham on Oct. 16. Other sightings there included a Bald Eagle, 2 Northern Bobwhites, a Virginia Rail, 2 Merlins, a Yellow-Breasted Chat, a Dickcissel, and an Eastern Meadowlark.
A Snow Bunting was seen at Nauset Beach in Orleans, and a Yellow-Crowned Night-Heron was also reported in Eastham.
There were Whimbrels in both Eastham and Wellfleet this week.
Birds at Race Point in Provincetown included a Pacific Loon, 2 Little Gulls, a White-Rumped Sandpiper, a Parasitic Jaeger, 7 Razorbills, 4 Lesser Black-Backed Gulls, 20 Forster’s Terns, and a Cory’s Shearwater.
